Dating Deep Dive
Welcome back to The Fine Arts of Dating!
Last week I kicked off a special 3-part series called ‘The Fine Arts of Dating’.
It’s about 3 key elements that, when combined, make any date with a woman a success!
Part 1 was ‘7 Pillars to Mastering Conversation Skills’. If you missed it, catch up here.
This week, we're shifting gears to explore a different, yet equally powerful aspect of dating.
It's something that speaks volumes, even in silence.
Let’s dive in!
PART 2 - BODY LANGUAGE AND WHY IT MATTERS

Back in my matchmaking days, I noticed something interesting…
Men would come out of their dates convinced everything went great.
But later, I’d hear from the woman, and her story would be a bit different…
It wasn't that she didn’t enjoy the date or wasn’t into him.
It was more about the vibe being off, even when conversation flowed.
Sometimes, she even thought he wasn’t interested in her, which wasn’t the case at all.
So what was really going on here?
Yep, it's body language.
Many men are unaware of the non-verbal cues they’re giving off.
Especially because first dates can amplify nerves, affecting how naturally you present yourself.
Your facial expressions, posture, and even your tone of voice, among other things, can tell a much different story than what you’re trying to get across.
A big one? Not smiling! How is a woman supposed to think you like-like her if you haven’t cracked a smile all night?

Consider this: About 90% of communication is non-verbal.
Which means mastering these cues can significantly improve your dating game, making connections deeper and more authentic.
Plus, it’s a skill you can pick up fast with just a little know-how and practice.
Let’s look at some examples you can start using right away on first dates:
Body Language Basics For Men (on the First Date)

— A few nods here and there show you get what they're saying. It's like quietly saying, "Yep, I follow you."
— Open body language, show’s confidence and a welcoming vibe. (Closed-off gestures like crossing arms or legs might be interpreted as closed off, guarded or even bored).
— When you're talking about stuff you love, let your hands help tell the story. It adds energy to what you’re saying.
— If you're excited, let your face show it – A smile or animated expressions make the conversation more lively.
— Mimic her body language (a little). If she leans forward, you can lean forward too. It's like saying, "We're on the same wavelength."
— If she’s sharing something important or vulnerable, lean a tad closer while maintaining eye contact. It shows her that you’re actively listening.
— Turn your body towards her when you say her name or ask her a question. It's like you're saying, "It's all about you right now.”
— After she speaks, take a moment before you respond. It shows that you're considering her words seriously, not just waiting for your turn to speak.

— A light touch on the arm to emphasize a point or show support can strengthen a connection, but always be mindful of personal boundaries and comfort levels.
— Eye contact is important, but finding the right balance is key. Too little can seem disinterested, and too much might be intimidating.
— A thumbs-up can be a non-verbal way of showing appreciation or agreement.

7 Body Language Improvement Exercises
Ready to enhance your non-verbal communication? Here's how to get started:
1. Observation: Watch how people communicate without words. Observe the gestures, postures, and facial expressions. Day to day scenarios or movies and TV shows are also excellent for seeing a wide range of body language in action.
2. Mirror Practice: Spend time in front of a mirror experimenting with different expressions and movements. See how various smiles, nods, and gestures look and feel. This can help you become more aware of how you're perceived.

3. Feedback from Friends: Have conversations with people close to you and ask them for their honest opinions on your body language. Their insights can reveal a lot about how you non-verbally communicate.
4. Record and Review: Video yourself in a mock conversation or while speaking about a topic. Watch the playback to observe your body language, noting any habits or mannerisms.
5. Professional Coaching: Consider attending workshops or seeking coaching, especially if you prefer structured learning.
6. Body Language Resources: Explore books and online materials about body language. These resources can provide foundational knowledge and practical tips.
7. Practice in Comfortable Settings: Start using your body language skills in low-pressure situations, like casual meetups with friends. This allows you to practice in a relaxed environment.
BONUS: Mindfulness Techniques: Engage in mindfulness exercises to enhance your self-awareness. Being present in the moment can greatly improve your non-verbal communication skills.

And that’s Part 2 in the books!
The good news is we still have part 3 to look forward to 😍. Stay tuned for the final edition where I’ll reveal one of the most overlooked elements of the dating art…
