Do The Opposite.

Dating apps follow this concept: First you match, then you talk, then you meet.

And most of the time it doesn’t go past ‘match’.

Turns out, building chemistry through a screen is hard. Go figure.

And without chemistry, it’s easy for things to fizzle before you can land that first date. It’s no wonder Tom Jones was struggling.

That’s why I told him to try speed dating. The concept is the total opposite.

First you Meet, then you talk, then you match!

This is so much better because you get to start with a mini first date.

And, without the digital barriers, you get a real shot at showing who you are.

Game changer.

Tom was pumped about his speed dating experience.

Getting out and socializing with so many single women was not only exciting—it was also a strong reminder that a dating life can exist beyond the apps.

The fact that he matched with 4 women was the icing on the cake.

Not to mention, just one week later, he was on a real first date after a very long time.

I gave Tom my 5 best speed dating tips before he ventured into the event which led to his successful evening.

And today, they’re all yours. You lucky dawg.

Fun Fact!

Did you know my company, Dashing Date, was the #1 speed dating company across North America for 8 years?

Let’s just say, you’re in the right hands.

Quick run down.

At a well-organized speed dating event, you'll meet between 8 to 20 single women in your age group, all in one evening.

Each speed date lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, giving you just enough time to see if there’s a vibe.

You'll use a 'scorecard' to note the names of each date and indicate whether you’re interested in them. At the end of the event, you hand in this card.

A ‘match’ at speed dating works similarly to a mutual swipe right on dating apps. After the event is over, the organizers will send you the contact information of any women you’ve matched with.

5 Golden Speed Dating Tips💘

Tip 1—Go To Play

Think about why you’re going speed dating. Is it to get a match or maybe to land a date?

If so, don’t go. Because you’ve already missed the point.

You’re not going to get a date. You’re going to have some fun!

Speed dating is your chance to meet new people, socialize and also discover more about yourself. Opportunities to just play and connect are few and far between these days. So take advantage.

Pro Tip: The more you release your expectations, the more comfortable others will feel in your presence.

Tip 2—Nervous? Join the Club!

As your event approaches, the jitters might start to get to you. It’s normal.

But it’s funny how it can seem like you’re the only person in the world going speed dating.

News flash: Everyone else at the event is also going speed dating 😅 They're all single, stepping out into the unknown, and for most, trying something new.

You're truly all in the same boat. This should help calm your nerves.

Tip 3—Be the "Who's That Guy?" Guy

If you wanna be the guy that all the women have their eyes on (and you do!), walk into the event 10-15 minutes early, and make everyone feel comfortable.

You do this by breaking the ice for the crowd that has already arrived.

As you now know, they are nervous too. So bring them together by saying:

“Looks like we’ll all be getting to know each other soon, so why not start now?”

Then take the lead by extending your hand and introducing yourself to the group one by one (at least 5 people - both men and women). Ask simple questions and share genuine compliments.

(Make sure to watch all the ‘Best Links’ about for what to ask and how to compliment)

Guys, if you can master this one move—creating a relaxed atmosphere for everyone—trust me, you will make the ultimate first impression.

Tip 4—Pocket The Quirky Qs for Now

It can be temping to want to stand out with out of the box questions.

Listen up. Your goal on each speed date is to find something you have in common. It’s the fastest way to create a connection.

Save the quirky questions for later and lead with broad, open-ended questions:

  • “What have you been up to this week?”

  • “
How do you re-energize after such a busy week?“

  • “What have you been enjoying spending your time on lately?”

  • “What do you have planned this weekend?”

  • “What’s been most exciting for you lately?”

Broad questions like this should give you several threads to pull at, making it easier to keep things moving and for finding things in common.

Tip 5—Don’t play it cool.

After the event is over and you’ve received your matches, it’s not the time to twiddle your thumbs.

She matched with you. She’s interested. And you’ve already met face to face. Make a move within 24 hours.

Here are 5 text templates to use:

  • "Hey Amy! It was great meeting you at the speed dating event. How about we continue our conversation over dinner this Friday? I know a great place 😊"

  • "Hi Kara, really enjoyed our talk at the speed dating event. Glad we matched and I remember you have a sweet tooth! I know the best spot for dessert. Free this week 😊?”

  • "Hey Delphine, we matched-woohoo! Interested in grabbing lunch together next week? Been craving tacos 😊"

  • "Hi Sofia, glad we matched! I remember you mentioned loving the outdoors. Would you be up for a walk in the park one of these days? Maybe we could grab a bite after 😊"

  • "Hi Lora, it’s Tom from the event 🙂 Was a pleasure meeting you. I've got the perfect idea for a fun outing—how does an afternoon at the local art museum sound to you? Followed by some coffee, of course đŸ˜Š"
