TEXT WITH CONFIDENCE - DATING DEEP DIVE
Never Overthink What To Text Again!
Ever sat there frozen, thumbs hovering, debating that text youāre about to sendā¦
The stakes feel high, maybe your heart is even racing a little. This next message is either gonna land you a date, or send you back to the drawing board.
Today, I'm pulling back the curtain on a real-life example that will teach you how to text with confidence, once and for all!
So here's the situation:
My client, Jay, was texting with a woman on Bumble. He suggested meeting up, but she was waiting on some out-of-town plans and couldn't confirm right away.
He didnāt want the connection to fizzle out, and felt a phone call or Zoom call would be the right next step. (Good move, btw!)
A little backstory:
Jay was tired of walking on eggshells with these apps. He told me he was keen to come across as confident and assertive with this ask, not clingy.
I helped Jay achieve this. Pull up a chairā¦ šŖ
A few weeks ago, Jay popped into my inbox with this message:
His next email rolled in seconds later. Hereās the message he was planning to send her:
As you can see, he ended his messaging by asking me if it was ātoo muchāā¦
Short answer: Yes, itās too much!! š
From a dating coachās perspective let me tell you I can smell the fear a mile away.
Maybe heās scared sheāll say no, or that sheās not really interested to begin with.
So what exactly is wrong with this message?
Itās aggressive ā āWhether this weekend works or not...ā
Itās entirely one sided, communicating only what he wants ā āIād still like to talk with youā
Itās presumptuous ā āPhone or zoom?ā
Jay was waiting for me to respondā¦
It would have been easy for me to tell him exactly what to say to her. I could have suggested something likeā¦
āNo worries! Keep me posted on your plans. Meanwhile, up for hopping on a phone or Zoom call this week?ā
While the message is pretty great, I knew it would only take him so far.
But the secret to successful dating is to be authentic so that you can build connection in any scenario.
This quote came to mindā¦ āGive a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.ā
So I said this instead:
To be honest, I took a bit of a risk! This wasnāt a client I knew that well, and I had no idea how he would interpret this kind of advice.
But soon after, his name popped up in my inbox again..
Hereās his 2nd attempt after taking my advice to heart:
Ok letās take a moment to just acknowledge (and appreciate) the total 180 here. Do you see it?
Itās night and day!āļøš
Letās break down the new message:
Itās conversational ā āHowās your week?ā / āWhen are you leaving?ā
Itās personal ā he builds a connection by talking about his life as a teacher in a playful way.
Heās including her in the decision making process ā āWant to plan forwardā¦?ā
Most importantly, the entire energy has shifted. There is no fear in this message, itās Chill. Inviting. Relatable.
And one more thingā¦
In a million years, I couldnāt have written this for him. And thatās the $100M strategyā¦ Itās AUTHENTIC!
And there it is, the journey of a single text message with the power to shift the entire conversation.
What happened next?
That remains Jay's story.
But! Soon after our exchange, he ended up buying my pre-recorded Confidence King Masterclass, so I guess he was happy after all!
How can you learn this strategy? Of course, I have it all perfectly packaged for you in this weekās Man Up Mission below.
ITāS TIME FOR ACTION! HEREāS THIS WEEKāS MISSIONā¦
'Easy Breezy Textingā
When I coach clients, we don't just chat over coffee. We roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty.
That's why every week, I bring you the Man Up Mission. Think of it as your weekly homework with a fun twist, designed to get you real results in your dating life.
š¬ āEasy Breezy Textingā is all about sinking into your confidence when it comes to communicating!
Over the next 7 days, your mission is practice the art of conversationābeyond the words.
So next time, before you hit that āSendā buttonā¦ Here are 5 key considerations to take into account. Each one is a building block to not just a message, but a connection.
Step 1 - Think about her, not just your own agenda.
Step 2 - What would it look/feel like to sink into your confidence right now?
Step 3 - What is something you can do in under 5 minutes to lift your spirits before replying?
Step 4 - Remember what this is really about; dating & connection.
Step 5 - How do you want others to feel in your presence?
Start to notice the differences in your texts, Before and After. With practice, this will soon become second nature.
