Dating Deep Dive

Ever been on a first date that feels like an interview?

Asking the usual stuff like…

"So what do you do for a living?"
or
“What’s your favorite hobby?”

Sure, questions like these are easy, but they’re also pretty boring 😵‍💫

More importantly, they don’t dig beneath the surface, allowing you to really get to know each other.

Look…

When it comes to dating, it’s your job to be a good date.

And that means asking her questions that are interesting…

Questions that get her talking, sharing stories, laughing, and feeling more connected to you.

Here are 5 out-of-the-box questions to try out on your next first date!

5 out-of-the-box questions for a first date

Q1. "So, if you weren't here right now, what would you be doing?"

Love this one! It’s light and fun and doesn’t require any 'setup', allowing you to use it anytime during your date, even right at the start.

Q2. "So, what does someone who really knows you well know about you?"

Another personal favorite. This unique question engages her to share something special, helping you both go deep quickly but in a playful way.

Q3. "So, what’s the first thing you thought about when you woke up this morning?"

This is a good one for her to ponder on, and it can reveal what's important to her or uncover something significant in her life right now. On the flip side, her answer might be funny, inviting some humor to the conversation 💯

Q4. "So, if you had a personal assistant follow you around all the time, what would you have them do?"

This upbeat question nudges the conversation into exploring her daily life, from the tasks she dreads to what keeps her schedule full to how she manages her time.

Q5. "So, what's one thing you bought for $100 or less that changed your life?"

This gem of a question is perfect for shifting the conversation into new territory, revealing her values and the small things that make a big difference to her. .

💖 BONUS!! 💖

Q6. "So, were you a troublemaker or a 'goodie two-shoes' back in school?"

This one is both casual and a touch flirty, inviting a window into her younger years. It strikes the perfect balance, allowing for either a light-hearted exchange or a deeper dive into childhood memories, based on her readiness to share.

A simple question like this can be the perfect lead into story telling, which can create a warm exchange and genuine connection.

PRO TIP! 💡Invite a story, not just an answer.

If you want to get to know someone on a date, the goal is to open up a space for stories.

This is achieved through 'question reframes'—a technique that transforms boring questions into invitations for sharing stories.

Here are some examples of reframing:

  • Boring: "What do you do for work?"

  • Reframe: "What led you to your current line of work?"

  • Boring: "Where are you from?"

  • Reframe: "What's a memorable story or tradition from where you grew up?"

  • Boring: "What’s your favorite movie?"

  • Reframe: "What movie has had the biggest impact on you?"

  • Boring: "Do you like to travel?"

  • Reframe: "What's a travel experience that really changed your perspective on life?"

  • Boring: "What are your hobbies?"

  • Reframe: "How did you get into your favorite hobby?"

❗Keep in mind❗Reframing doesn't mean to eliminate or replace the ‘boring’ question. In most instances, it's best used as a follow-up.

Don’t forget to…
